About Gretton Homes
Gretton Homes opened its first care home, Gretton House in January 1982. Towards the end of 1982 the first client with PWS was placed in the home, the placement proved a highly successful one and as a result Gretton House began to acquire a level of knowledge and expertise not available anywhere in the UK.
Gretton Homes is now part of Consensus Support Services, a leading UK provider of services for adults with a range of learning disabilities.
Gretton Homes has a proven track record in reducing and maintaining weight loss, in people with PWS however, the overall success of managing the syndrome should not be measured in weight loss alone.
We also enable many clients with challenging behaviours and complex needs to manage better this aspect of their condition. In many cases behaviours and complex needs have been reduced, many dramatically.
There is anecdotal evidence to suggest a clear link between weight loss and a reduction in challenging behaviours, in particular temper outbursts.
Gretton Homes now consists of nine houses all of which are specifically managed for people with PWS. Over 70 people from all over the UK are supported in these homes. Gretton Homes together with their Consensus colleagues opened a 13 bed service in Dunblane in 2009 as well as a 6 bed service in Peterborough in 2010.
